I let dreams guide my life.

This morning I dreamed I kissed Jared Padalecki, who I really only know as Dean from Gilmore Girls. In the dream I was thinking, "He's way too young for me. And I have braces; he probably doesn't like that. And he dated my little sister, which makes this weird." (I got him confused with someone else there for a second.) All the same, it was nice, so I went to Netflix and moved Supernatural, season 1 disc 1, to the top of my queue.

Yeah. Do anyone else's fandoms start this way?

Oh, my gosh! I love Supernatural! It was recommended to me by a fellow Buffyverse fan. The writing is witty, the plotlines are often spooky and scary, and the chemistry between Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles is fantastic.

I've heard Whedonverse comparisons elsewhere too, so hey, definitely worth a shot. And cute brothers are a plus. (I draw my line at incest, but I don't mind gazing upon them myself, naturally...)

I often re-discover fandoms in this manner. My recent Twin Peaks annual review stems from a dream coffee-date with Dale Cooper where he read my palm and I wiped powdered sugar from the corner of his lips with my thumb. He smelled of juniper berries, a hint of dirt and musk, heliotrope, cedar plankboard roasting and wet leather. I resisted the urge to crawl into his trench coat and snuggle against his chest like a little kid in a rainstorm. I wrote his dream-scent down when I woke up because I dream-thought at the time, "I need to tell Mol about this."

I wuv sexy fictional characters who are quirky and look like a young Cary Grant...

That's quite the sensory detail! Cool. I rarely get scent in my dreams, for whatever reason. And though I only saw a little of Twin Peaks, McLachlan's performance stuck with me. Funny and quite handsome and something of an oddball--what a great character.

I assume you've seen that film (Touch of Pink) where he actually does play the ghost of Cary Grant? Sort of a forgettable movie otherwise, but that was a highlight for sure.

Yep, I caught that flick on IFC last summer I believe.

The only reason I watched it... a line from Twin Peaks:
One-Jacks's Madam (indicating Big Ed Hurley in disguise): He looks like a cop...(to Dale Cooper wearing a tux and looking suave)But you. (touches his lapel) You look like Cary Grant.

Then McLachlan does this Cary Grant turn of the head and sardonic smile in which he DID look just like Cary Grant!

His Cary Grant in that film was exquiste. I forget the basic plot because as you said, it was forgettable. But, I don't regret seeing K.M. take on Grant.

They don't start that way, I just can judge my level of obsession by what fandoms enter my dreams. As I can recall, the following fannish obsessions have appeared in my dreams: Jonathan Taylor Thomas (...years ago, I promise), The X-Files (when I was playing the role of Scully and chased by Jesuits), LotR (specifically David Wenham), Orlando Bloom (not a sex dream, actually a funeral was involved), and Harry Potter (Remus/Sirius, and that's the most recent one).

That is...pretty much a completely accurate summary of my fannish life.

Except for the part about the Jesuits. That was just...weird.

Jesuits, huh? Were you reading The da Vinci Code at the time by any chance? :)

I get celebs in my dreams all the time, but usually they're more related to current interests. This one was odd that way.

Nope, this was waaaaaaay back in 2000, at the height of my XF obsession. It's one of my most vivid and bizarre dreams, which kinda makes sense. LOL

Actually that's about how I started watching "How I Met Your Mother"

I had a dream that I worked with Willow, and since I'm an Elementary Ed major, that seemed about right for that show.

Willow as in Alyson Hannigan? Huh. Didn't realize she was in that. Cool.

Yeah, she plays a kindergarten teacher dating then married to one of the other characters.

Heehee! Cute. :-) You'll love Supernatural, I think. It's definitely one of my favourite shows. Pretty boys, those Winchesters!

Looking forward to it! I've heard it's similar to Buffy in some ways.
