A 35-minute delay...

Congratulations to dirae for winning the latest perfume drawing! Another to come in a week or so.

In other news...

I heard an NPR interview with Kevin McDonald and Dave Foley the other day, and it reminded me how much I loved "Kids in the Hall." They played the audio of this bit of a sketch, which encapsulates that show's characteristic loony comedy quite well (and just amused me, besides).

Kevin: Mr. Lucic, do you still maintain that your actions concerning Flight 138 are somehow justified?

Dave: What would you have done? None of you can understand because none of you were there. You don't think about what's right and wrong when you're just trying to survive. Right and wrong, those are just words... they don't mean anything! When you look around you and all you can see is death! And all you can feel is the hunger. What would you have done?

Kevin: We're not talking about a plane crash in the Andes here, sir. You never got off the runway. We are talking about a delay. You are the sole survivor of a 35-minute delay.

Dave: [sobbing a bit] 35 minutes I will never forget!

Kevin: You ate 112 of your fellow passengers. You could have eaten just one, but no, you ate a little bit of each passenger. Why?

Dave: [turing to judge] Your honor, I am not an experienced cannibal! I did not get on that plane expecting to eat ANYONE! I simply tasted a little of each in the hopes that the next one would taste better!

I miss KitH - "Goodbye, Bellini. The next time I see a man in a towel at the airport, I'll think of you."

Hee! I'd forgotten about good old Bellini in his towel.

Also, KitH is one of the few shows/films where boys in drag actually sometimes looked pretty as women. (Definitely not always, but certainly sometimes.)

Dave Foley looked great as a woman - there's actually a Halloween-themed episode of Newsradio in which Lisa Miller (Maura Tierney) is jealous because Dave Nelson (Dave Foley) looks better in a dress than she does.

The interesting thing about all the drag on KitH is that guys weren't doing it for laughs but were genuinely playing women characters. It first started because actresses kept leaving the troupe, so they decided to just play the women's roles themselves.

I think I remember that NewsRadio episode. That was a great show, too. Excellent ensemble cast.

Hah, I didn't know that about the need for actresses. (The boys must've been impossible to live with...) But yeah, I think it works better, and actually is a lot funnier, when they try genuinely to look and act like women.

Newsradio was never the same after Phil Hartman died. He was just one member of an ensemble, but he was vital to its overall chemistry.
