Pretty pretty Legolas

Important events of our time:

The "Which Legolas Are You?" Quiz:

In case the link dies someday, here's what I got:
"You're 'Council of Elrond' Legolas: a little interested in certain shiny gold things, and you sit by some pretty girly-looking elves, but in the end you decide you'd rather have perfect hair than some silly gold ring."

So true. Perfect hair is worth way more than its weight in gold.

Too bad, though...the Aragorn-Stalking Legolas looked like a juicy one.

Hahahaha! I got the Amon-hen Legolas, predictably (was in love with him from books for being a badass all along ;) ) That's a great quiz innit? Thanks for drawing it to my attention!

I guess I'd go for the perfect hair too, something I've never had in real life. Sigh.

Lemonlye, I took a proper look at your web pages today and found quite a lot to amuse myself with.

My favourite article was your very acutely-observed essay on the weird world of fanfic. I loved the way you described how you found Least Expected, left in horror, then crept back a week later. I think a lot of people would do that.

I was actually repelled by slash at first. Someone told me that it all originated with Kirk and Spock in the old Star Trek series. I read a slash fic about them and it very nearly put me off watching Trek ever again!

I think it's the pairing which is the most important thing. It's very easy to see the subtext where Frodo and Sam are concerned but I have to confess I can't really see it with any other pairings, although plenty of people do and that's OK by me.

I also liked your parody of "Far from the Madding Crowd". Very sharp and most funny.

The Legolas lookalike pic was cool too - does he get asked for his autograph in the street?

Great work on the site.
A.

Howdy A.,

I thank you kindly! Yeah, it's only been a month or two since I wrote the fanfic essay, but I'm already softer toward the subject. It does really depend on the pairing. When I first saw the Frodo/Sam stuff, I hadn't read the books, and thus didn't realize that Tolkien had already done half the work in setting up a "relationship" between them--practically sent engraved invitations to slashers of the future. :)

Kirk and Spock...eek, yeah, that's a stretch. Nowhere near as believable as the Mulder/Scully pairings. (Since those two actually did end up together.)

Unfortunately my Legolas acquaintance doesn't look all that much like Orlando in person, but those photos were too similar to pass up. Maybe if I got him to bleach his hair and do some little braids...

You're absolutely right, Tolkien have us plenty of juicy morsels and whetted our appetites with the text he wrote about Sam and Frodo. He did a pretty good job of writing slash himself, many have said! Hopefully he won't be too angry about the stuff we're writing now.

I certainly wouldn't want to see Gandalf in any slash stories. I tried reading one once and it squicked me. I thought to myself, "No, I'd much prefer it if you kept your clothes on, thank you". There just has to be someone in Middle-earth who is above that sort of thing, and for me Gandalf is definitely that person!

Indeed, Gandalf's a grandfather figure to me, and to most other readers and characters, I'd wager. Just doesn't seem right to have grandfather figures in these things.

Nor Gollum. I mean, sure, he may run around naked all the time, but that doesn't mean anyone would want to cuddle with him...eww, slimy.

Oh, and Treebeard or the other Ents--stories have been written, but yikes, that just doesn't sound plausible to me. Talk about splinters!

Re:
Yes, Ents, scary isn't it. Perhaps an erotic story featuring Treebeard, Merry and Pippin?I'd forgotten about the possibility of splinters!I'd love to write a fic featuring Gollum though, perhaps with him coming between Frodo and Sam. It's an intriguing thought!
