Heh! I saw all those Gene Wilder movies when I was too young to think of slash, but you have a point. They subtly played up the "strangely close" buddy relationships of Western movies, in 'Blazing Saddles.' After all, Sheriff Bart obviously wasn't going to stay with Lily von Schtupp. ;) Then again, the boys were nowhere near as slashy as the totally flagrant Hollywood guys they stumble upon, rehearsing their dance number "The French Mistake." Hee.
